The Human Rights Implications of
Climate Change for Indigenous Australians
There is a paucity of research on the impact of climate change upon Indigenous communities in Australia. That lacuna has been identified in Australia by some researchers such as CSIRO and the Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre, yet remains unmet by large scale strategic analysis or policy response. An analysis of the impact of climate change upon Indigenous communities will give consideration to and undertake ongoing monitoring of the impact of international, national and state legislative measures and policies taken to combat climate change in Australia. How will these legislative measures and policies impact upon Indigenous communities? What measures are Indigenous communities already involved in at a state, national and international level? How are Indigenous communities formally engaged in determining a solution to climate change? A specific focus will be on Indigenous advocacy internationally as a guide to how the process may involve Indigenous peoples domestically.
